ORANGE Emus co-coach Paul Ringland said things were against his side in Saturday’s Blowes Clothing Cup match against Narromine.

That didn’t stop Emus scoring an emphatic 53-3 win over the Gorillas in Narromine.

Ringland said a few personnel changes and the conditions at Cale Oval made things tough but his team was up to it.

“It’s a tough place to play. It was a sunny 18 degrees which we’re not used to at the moment,” Ringland laughed.

“There were a few things going against us but we stuck to our guns and went well.

“We had a few guys out and all the players who came in played well.”

They were leading 24-3 at half-time with a penalty goal the only points the Gorillas were able to score all game.

“That was the pleasing bit,” Ringland said of keeping Narromine try-less.

“Our backs defended really well.”

Try-scoring machine, winger Carter Hirini, was at his best again running in four five-pointers

“He’s playing really well, ” Ringland said of the speedster.

“We’re giving him a bit of space but he’s doing a lot of work to finish off those tries.”

The co-coach also made mention of Isaac White, who was a stand out at inside centre, and Simon Badgery, who was a workhorse in the forwards.

The win sets up a mouth-watering derby against Orange City in the regular season’s final round next weekend.
